「ゑびす様」、「恵比寿様」、「えべっさん」など、様々な呼び方のある「ゑびすの神」。
漁業や商売、五穀豊穣の神様として、現在でも親しまれています。
ふくよかな体に笑顔、大きな耳たぶを見れば、いかにも豊かさのご利益を得られそうな感じがするのではないでしょうか。
「ゑびすの神」は、七福神の一柱で、唯一の日本の神様とされています。
七福神のうち、「ゑびすの神」以外は、中国やインドが由来とされているようです。

古事記などによると、「ゑびすの神」は、伊邪那岐命、伊邪那美命（いざなぎのみこと、いざなみのみこと）の初めての子供として日本の地に誕生しました。
伊邪那岐命、伊邪那美命といえば、日本神話に出てくる神様のことで、日本の国土を生み出した神々とされています。
「ゑびすの神」は、その二柱の初めての子供でしたが、体が蛭（ヒル）のようであったため、「ひるこ」と名ずけられました。
「ひるこ」は、3歳になっても歩くことができず、何らかの障害を持っていたとされています。
現代では、ありえない話ですが、伊邪那岐命、伊邪那美命はそのような「ひるこ」を葦の船で海へ捨ててしまったそうです。
しかしながら、「ひるこ」は、漁民たちに助けられ、大事に育てられ、祀られるようになったといわれています。

毎年、1月9日10日11日に「ゑびす様」を祀るお祭りが行われます。
関西では聞いたことのない人はいないのではというぐらい有名なお祭りで、「十日戎」と呼ばれています。
「ゑびすの神」を祀る総本山は、「西宮神社」になり、兵庫県西宮市にありますが、大阪の「今宮戎神社」も有名です。
Healing inn から歩いてすぐの「野田恵比寿神社」でも「十日戎」を行っています。
