We had dinner at Miyako, a Temari Sushi restaurant located in Porta, a station building in Kyoto.
We ordered the Miyako-Set!
The appetizer was also good, with a great taste of dashi broth!
It was cool and easy to eat!
The main dish was also very pretty and I couldn’t resist snapping a few pictures.

そもそも手毬寿司ってなあに?
What is temarizushi anyway?
手鞠寿司とは、一口で食べられるサイズのお寿司のことを言います。
形も手鞠のようで、可愛らしいですよね。
発祥は、京都の花街だそう。
舞妓さんたちの口紅などのお化粧が落ちないように、小さく、食べやすいサイズのお寿司が作られたとか。
なんだか、歴史を感じることもできて、感慨深いですね。
Temari-zushi is a type of sushi that can be eaten in one bite.

It is said to have originated in Kyoto’s Hanamachi district.
It is said that the small, easy-to-eat size sushi was created to keep the lipstick and other makeup of maiko (apprentice geisha) from falling off.

How to make temarizushi?
手鞠寿司、作るのって大変そう?
意外とそんなことはないようです。
用意するのは、
・お米
・寿司酢
・好きなネタ
だけ。
お米を少し固めに炊いて、すし酢をかけて、しばらく冷まします。
ラップに好きな具材を置いて、その上に先ほどの冷ましたお米を置いて、丸く握るだけ!
とっても簡単ですよね。

Does it sound difficult to make Temari-zushi?
Surprisingly, it does not seem to be.
All you need is
・Rice
・Sushi vinegar
・Your favorite ingredients
and your favorite ingredients.
Cook the rice a little firm, pour the sushi vinegar over it, and let it cool for a while.
Place your favorite ingredients on a piece of plastic wrap, place the cooled rice on top of the ingredients, and then roll the rice into a ball!
